Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Fifty-six consenting ASA I/II patients between 18-70 years scheduled for elective orthopaedic lower limb surgeries under combined spinal epidural (CSE) anesthesia will be included
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. History of psychiatric disorders 2. Intake of medication or drugs influencing the hypothalamic-pituitary axis like continuous steroid therapy >5 days over last one year or drugs influencing the sympathetic nervous system like beta blockers. 3. Contraindications to CSE anesthesia administration like bleeding disorders, deranged coagulation profile, local site infection, neurological or spinal disease. 4. Known cases of diabetes, thyroid disorders , pheochromocytoma, carcinoid tumor etc. 18 5. H/o present or past malignancy 6. Patients complaining of or medical records suggestive of hearing impairment or loss 7. Patients being taken up for surgery after 10 am (in order to avoid physiological variations due to circadian rhythm of cortisol)
