Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)Patients scheduled to undergo elective lower limb surgery under spinal anaesthesia or combined spinal epidural anaesthesia. 2) ASA I or II

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Patients with refusal of consent. 2)Patients with contraindications to spinal anaesthesia. 3)Local infection at the site of injection. 4)History of allergy to bupivacaine. 5)Patients older than 60 years and younger than 18 years. 6)Pregnant patients. 7)History of spinal surgery or vertebral column abnormalities. 8)Patients witrh cardiovascular disease, diabetic neuropathy,neurological diseases,coagulation disorders.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Vertebral column length. 2. Abdominal girth 3. Cephalid limit of sensory block for cold[Smax(cold)] and pinprick discrimination [Smax(pinprick)] will be noted.Timepoint: Assessment will be done every 3 minutes till there is no further increase for 3 consecutive observations.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Time to reach maximum sensory block to both sensations i.e cold and pinprick discrimination from the time of removal of spinal needle after giving intrathecal block. 2.Demographic characteristics like height, weight, age, BMI and gender. 3.Intra-operative hypotension (defined as fall more than 20% in baseline mean arterial pressure) 4.Cephalad limit of motor block will be noted.Timepoint: Assessment will be done every 3 minutes till there is no further increase for 3 consecutive observations.
