Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age 1-15 years Consenting Either gender Moderate to severe TBI (GCS: 3-13)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with polytrauma Patients with any known chronic disease like malignancy, neurological disorders, inborn errors of metabolism or congenital heart disease Patients on any chronic medications Nonconsenting patients Patients unlikely to survive beyond 24 hours of admission.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. To find incidence and type of micronutrient deficiency in paediatric patients with moderate to severe TBI (Serum levels of Vitamin A, vitamin B12, Folate, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and Carnitine will be measured on Day 1, 3,7 and 10 of TBI ) 2. Association of micronutrient deficiency with in hospital mortality 3. Association of micronutrient deficiency with the duration of mechanical ventilation in days during hospital stay 4. Association of micronutrient deficiency with nosocomial infection rates during hospital stay 5. Association of micronutrient deficiency with the duration of hospital stay in days 6. Association of micronutrient deficiency with neurological outcome at hospital discharge Timepoint: Day 1, 3,7 and 10 Discharge from hospital After 3 months from injury

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Association of micronutrient deficiency with the neurological outcome as measured by extended Glasgow coma scale at 3 months post-injury 2. Association of micronutrient deficiency with growth as measured by nomograms at 3 months post-injury Timepoint: Day 1, 3,7 and 10 Discharge from hospital After 3 months from injury
