Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status I, II, III and (4) absence of clinical infections or positive urine culture will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) pre-existing heart disorders, (2) long-term use of sedative drugs,steroid (3) fever within one�week (4) undergoing another surgery simultaneously (5) those who failed to be followed up will be excluded.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the inflammatory cytokines markers, TNF and IL-6 after dexmedetomidine infusion in patients undergoing elective abdominal surgeries.Timepoint: at baseline (before surgery) and 24 hrs, 48 hrs & 72 hrs after surgery.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To find incidence of postoperative systemic inflammatory response syndrome in patients.Timepoint: 24 hrs, 48 hrs and 72 hrs after surgery.
