Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Consenting parents and assenting children (aged 6 to 11) and adolescents (12-18) 2. ASA grade 1-III 3. Undergoing elective surgery under general anesthesia requiring postoperative urinary catheterization.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Parents not willing to give consent. 2. Surgery involving the bladder neck, patient on long-term catheterization. 3. Intellectual disability, mentally challenged. 4. Long-term use of analgesics. 5. Patients having bladder-related pathologies viz overactive bladder, neurogenic bladder, urinary tract infection, etc. 6. Continuous caudal analgesia. 7. Chronic renal insufficiency (serum creatinine >1.5 mg/dl) or liver insufficiency (total bilirubin >34.2 mmol/l). 8. Children who have preoperative catheters in situ. 9. Children who cannot be extubated at the end of surgery. 10. Children who undergo suprapubic catheterization.
