Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All patients undergoing ventral hernia repair including incisional hernia. 2. BMI 3. 18 to 65 years of age both male and female. 4. Patient is able to follow instructions. 5. Able to provide informed written consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Age > 65 or 2. BMI > 35 3. Unable to give consent or patient refusal. 4. Unfit for general anaesthesia. 5. Chronic liver disease.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Identification of any association between muscular elasticity/stiffness of the abdominal wall and surgical data/outcomes of the hernia repair.Timepoint: Baseline, after 1 month ,6 month and 1 year after surgery

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Shear wave velocity measurements in the abdominal wall of normal healthy individuals and patients with ventral hernias(VH) (primary VH and incisional hernia) 2. Any additional weak or thin areas near hernia 3. Post operative evaluation of all preoperatively evaluated parameters 4. Successful coverage of all weak areas with either primary closure or mesh. Timepoint: Baseline, 1 month, 6 month and 1 year after surgery.
