Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male and non pregnant female patients aged above 20 years who are willing to volunteer for the study will be divided into cases and controls. • Cases: this group will include patients with melasma diagnosed based on history and visual examination of the affected area. • Controls: this group will comprise of age matched men and women without melasma

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Age less than 20 years 2)Pregnant women 3)Patients on treatment with zinc for any condition/taking zinc supplements 4)Subjects under treatment for any thyroid dysfunction 5)Patients taking Oral contraceptive pills • liver disease and renal failure • malabsorption disorders • subjects suffering from other pigmentation disorders • under any treatment with topical hydroquinone, isotretinoin, topical steroid or with any drugs that can induce hyperpigmentation within 1 month prior to the study.
