Intervention1: Metoprolol: 25mg once daily which may be escalated up to 50gm once daily depending on the need.
Control Intervention1: Amlodipine: 2.5mg OD which may be escalated up to 5 mg respectivel

Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Consecutive patients with CT/MRI proven stroke within 3 days of ictus will be included
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Stroke due to arteriovenous malformation, aneurysm, coagulopathy, bleeding disorders, tumor, trauma, patients with hepatic or renal failure, pre-existing cardiac failure, heart block, renal disease, liver disease, endocrinal disease, HIV, pregnancy, lactation, and those on corticosteroids, norepinephrine, immunosuppressant, chemotherapy and radiotherapy will be excluded.
