Interventions

Intervention1: Behavioral activation interventions: Behavioral Activation (BA) interventions are based on regularly scheduling and performing activities that connect depressed individuals to positive
recreation
personal and emotional health
and spirituality. Activities can include: phoning a family member or friend for socialization
taking a 20 minute walk
preparing a family meal
knitting something for the baby
pranayama, (breathing exercises)
paper crafting
learning a new Rangoli (decorative floor art)
praying
yoga
and learning best-practice breast-feeding techniques. Control Intervention1: Not Applicable: Not Applicable

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Mothers who 1. are around 6th week of postpartum period. 2. Receive postnatal follow-up from an ASHA 3. are aged 18 or older. 4. can read and write in Kannada. 5. screen positive for Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) for PPD with a score of 10 or greater.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Mothers are not eligible if they fulfil any of the following exclusion criteria. 1. who have known diagnosis of major depressive disorder, bipolar or psychotic disorder, active substance dependence, or risk of self-harm.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Intervention Feasibility and acceptability after assessment by using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression ScaleTimepoint: Till completion of 6 weeks in study/Participant get hospitalized/Participant would like to discontinue in study.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To reduce the severity of illness by involving mothers in Behavioral Activation Intervention those who get 10 and above in Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale.Timepoint: Till completion of six weeks in study/participant get hospitalized/Participant would like to withdraw in study
