Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All mechanically ventilated patients, aged 18 years to 65 years, who are ventilated for more than 48 hours and their underlying pathology has either resolved or improving and they meet the weaning criteria

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: A) cardiac arrest,acute coronary syndrome or life threatening arrhythmia B)failure of more than 2 organs C) recent trauma or burns of neck and face D) contraindications of high flow nasal cannula ( abnormalities of face , nose, airway or pneumothorax, recent cranial surgery, severe bulbous lung disease) E) unplanned or self extubation F)APACHE score more than 25 G) once failed weaning trial H) tracheostomised patient I) neuromuscular disorder J) non cooperation K) pregnancy L) refusal of treatment
