Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients > 18 years undergoing cardiac surgery in whom a transesophageal echocardiography probe is used.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Any patient with a known contraindication to transesophageal echocardiography probe or in whom the probe cannot be inserted.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The proportion of patients with appropriate depth of insertion of central venous catheters in each group as guided by transesophageal echocardiography.Timepoint: Intraoperatively after catheter placement.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Alignment of catheters in each group. 2. Co-relation of measured depth of insertion in bronchoscopy group with measured depth of insertion using radiology in a proportion of patients.Timepoint: Intraoperative
