Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: otherwise healthy adult male/female patients visiting to the outpatient department of periodontology with oral lichen planus and chronic gingivitis

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: any systemic disease that affects periodontium,pregnant or post menopausal women, heavy smokers or history of alcohol abuse, those receiving any anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics or vitamins within previous 3 months

growth of streptococcus species nitrate levels Timepoint: Saliva and plaque samples will be collected after 24 hours of scaling and root planing (baseline sample); post rinsing (immediate intervention sample) and 7 days of rinsing/ beetroot consumption (maintenance sample).
