Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All Patients more than equal to 60 years of age undergoing major abdominal surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.BMI > 30 kg/m2 2.Severe Cardiopulmonary diseases 3.Hemodynamic Instability 4.Cerebrovascular Diseases

MeasureTime frame
To compare the effect of low Fio2 (0.4) with recruitment manoeuvre during extubation against high Fio2(1) with or without recruitment manoeuvre on postoperative atelectasis measured by using lung ultrasound scoring(luss-parameter 1 used for sample size calculation as well) and oxygenation measured using Pao2 (parameter 2)and pao2/fio2 ratio(parameter 3).Timepoint: Lung ultrasound score(luss) measured -30 minutes preoperatively, 30minutes postoperatively and 24 hours postoperatively. pao2 and pao2/fio2 ratio measured using arterial blood gas - preoperatively(baseline before induction), 10 minutes after induction, 30 minutes post extubation, 6 hours postoperatively.

Incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications like- 1.Incidence of desaturation 2.oxygen requirement 3.pneumothorax 4. post-operative pneumonia 5.post-operative icu requirement.Timepoint: Within in 24 hours post-operatively.
