Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Groups 1 and 2 Systemically healthy male and female subjects in the age group of 20 to 60 years. Presence of a minimum of 20 teeth in the oral cavity. Generalised periodontitis in stage3 gradeB as described by the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions, and published by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). Group 3 Systemically healthy male and female subjects in the age group of 20 to 60 years. Presence of a minimum of 20 teeth in the oral cavity. Periodontally healthy controls i.e clinically healthy gingiva with intact periodontium characterized as described by the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions and published by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with a history of systemic diseases including bone-related and collagen-metabolic disorders that compromise sclerostin, OPG, or RANKL levels. Patients on steroid therapy or any other medications affecting bone metabolism. Current and former smokers. Chronic consumers of alcohol. Pregnant or lactating women. Subjects with intake of systemic antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs 3 months prior to their recruitment into study. Subjects with a history of periodontal therapy in any form 6 months prior to their recruitment to the study.
