Intervention1: Deferasirox: Deferasirox 500mg tablet on the night before surgery dissolved in 100ml plain water Control Intervention1: Glucose tablet: One tablet on the night before surgery dissolved

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Elective thoracic surgery on one lung ventilation requiring lung seperation using Double Lumen Tube

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Refusal to give consent Bilateral lung disease Cardiovascular disease Renal or hepatic disease Allergy to study medication Obesity and pregnant patients

MeasureTime frame
Difference in Shunt FractionTimepoint: 1. Baseline 2. 10 minutes , 20 minutes ,30 minutes after initiation of One Lung Ventilation 3. 6 hours postoperatively

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Differences in : 1.Number of desaturation episodes 2.Partial pressure of oxygen 3.Arterial blood saturation 4.Ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen 5.Alveolar arterial gradientTimepoint: All of these will be measured at 1. Baseline 2. 10 minutes , 20 minutes ,30 minutes after initiation of One Lung Ventilation 3. 6 hours postoperatively
