Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Those with acute severe ulcerative colitis diagnosed on the basis of Modified Truelove and Wittââ?¬•s criteria

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who deny consent Age ââ?°Â¤ 18years Pregnant and lactating women Presence of toxic megacolon as defined by transverse colon diameter more than 5.5cm on abdominal X-ray Infective exacerbation Presence of dysplasia or any indication for surgery Patients who are deemed to require surgery in next 48 hours Diagnosis is uncertain like Crohnââ?¬•s or indeterminate colitis Disease extent: E1 disease (15cm or less) Very low BMI ( Very high risk of refeeding syndrome (prolonged fasting i.e > 3 days OR low energy diet i.e less than 50% of calorie requirement for > 7 days OR dyselectrolytemia in form of serum K of
