Intervention1: intermittent patient controlled boluses.: an epidural catheter will be placed and intermittent patient controlled boluses of 10ml of 0.1% Ropivacaine and 2mcg/cc Fentanyl will be given

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: singleton, term pregnancies with vertex presentation, less than or equal to 3cm cervical dilatation, Epidural in situ for more than 5hours.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: baseline temperature >38oC, suspected chorioamnionitis, contraindications to regional anaesthesia-patient refusal, active maternal hemorrhage, septicemia, infection at or near the site of needle insertion and clinical signs of coagulopathy.

to assess analgesia between two modalities using a visual pain score and number of rescue boluses.Timepoint: 2 hours;to assess STOPS score of neonates at birthTimepoint: at birth;to check levels of serum Ropivacaine in cord bloodTimepoint: post delivery;to compare levels of serum ropivacaine between continous and intermittent epidural analgesia at different time intervalsTimepoint: 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 4 hours and post delivery
