Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age: 18 years or older Bilateral impacted lower third molar needing extraction with the necessity of bone removal based on panoramic radiography. Patient reporting for prophylactic removal of mandibular 3rd molar. Patients with no active infection.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria •Patients with associated pathologies like cysts or tumors of the jaw bones. •Systemic illness and inflammation. •Pre-existing infection at the extraction site •Patients with history of GI or allergic co-morbidities. •Pregnant women.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Assessment of the following parameters: Swelling/ Edema as perceived by the patient. Surgical site infection. Restriction in mouth opening. Formation of alveolar osteitis. Pain based on the VAS Scale.Timepoint: Immediately post procedure and on day 5 post procedure.

MeasureTime frame
Knowledge about efficacy of the newly formulated protocol in peri operative management of Impacted third molars will help in formulating guidelines for better treatment options and to lower the antibiotic and analgesic dosages.Timepoint: On completion of the sudy
