Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Permission from school authorities of both government and private institutions, located in the main zones of Chennai city. 2. School children aged 10 to 15 years in the selected schools for assessment of nutritional status. 3. Willingness of children identified to be malnourished to participate in the nutrition intervention program. 4. Obtaining consent from parents of children identified to be malnourished and an assent from the children for periodic counselling and assessment of nutritional status including estimation of serum hemoglobin using a HemoCue prick method before and after the intervention.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Schools which do not give permission. 2. School children below the age of 10 and above the age of 15 years. 3. Non-willingness of either the child or parent to participate. 4. Children suffering from any chronic health issues.
