Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients admitted to EICU with clinically suspected VAP based on following criteria: Mechanical Ventilation >=48 hrs, newly appeared/ evolving CXR infilterate and >= 2 of the following criteria :- temperature( >= 38.5®c ) or hypothermia ( 104/ml or leucopenia <4.103/ml; purulent tracheal secretions; PaO2/FiO2 < 300

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a. Ongoing pneumonia b. Presence of subcutaneous emphysema or thoracic dressings c. Contraindications to fibreoptic bronchoscopy. d. Patients with previous H/O COPD, interstitial lung disease. e. Patients who will die within 24 hours will be excluded from the analysis.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
early diagnosis of Ventilator assosiated pneumonia in ICU.Timepoint: 12 months

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary efficacy outcomes will be monitoring of progress of pneumonia by monitoring aeration in diagnosed VAP cases. Secondary safety outcomes will be monitoring VAP recovery and antibiotic efficacy. Timepoint: 12 months
