Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (i) were 18 years or older and in good general health; (ii) had more than 20 natural teeth; (iii) had bilateral maxillary first molars that still had both mesial and distal neighbouring teeth; (iv) had more than 5-mm deep periodontal pockets and bleeding on probing.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (i) Patients with a history of systemic disease. (ii) Patients who have undergone oral prophylaxis or any kind of treatment within 6 months. (iii) Patients with a history of antibiotics usage within 1 week. (iv) Patients using any chemical antiplaque agents within 1 week. (v) Patients wearing any RPD or FPD or ortho appliances. (vi) Patients with a known history of allergy to chlorhexidine.
