Interventions

Intervention1: Expiratory rib cage compression (ERCC): ERCC will be done by placing both hands over anterior and posterior aspects of the one side of the chest (rib cage), then doing chest compression
and pressure will be synchronized and initiate with the initiation of the expiration till the end of expiratory phase. Control Intervention1: Chest Percussion: Chest percussion will be done by cupping

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All adult patients ( >18 years) on mechanical ventilation having moderate to severe ARDS, will be considered for inclusion in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Age 65 years 2. Suspected or confirmed head injury 3. Increased intracranial pressure 4. Acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema 5. Acute coronary syndrome 6. Arrhythmias 7. Left ventricular dysfunction 8. Abdominal compartment syndrome 9. Rib fracture 10. Pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum 11. Pregnancy

MeasureTime frame
To measure changes in PaO2, PaCO2 and static lung compliance after each technique of chest physiotherapy, at 20 and 60 minutes, in comparison to baseline (pre-chest physiotherapy)Timepoint: At 20 and at 60 minutes after chest physiotherapy session

To measure secretion volume (ml) yield through suctioning of tracheal secretions, immediately after the each techniques of chest physiotherapy.Timepoint: Immediately after chest physiotherapy session
