Interventions

Intervention1: Pure Tone Audiometry and Tympanometry: The patients included in the study will undergo pure tone audiometry(PTA) to record hearing threshold in air- conduction mode for 250Hz to 8kHz in
minimal: 16-25dB
mild: 26-40dB
moderate :41to 55dB
moderately severe:56to 70dB
severe:71 to 90dB and profound: more than 90dB. All the patients are tested with the help of same audiometer and audiologist in a sound proof room. Pure-tones of different intensities and frequencies

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Conscious, oriented and able to communicate to audiometric test at the time of discharge Critically ill patients with age >15 years with admission sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score >6 with history of shock requiring vasopressor support and/or respiratory failure requiring ventilatory support (invasive/non-invasive) during their ICU stay

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Any patient unable to cooperate for hearing examination Previous history of hearing loss or any ear pathology Head trauma/ trauma involving the ear Diagnosed CNS pathologies in the discharge summary : Cerebrovascular accident (CVA), acute/ chronic meningoencephalitis, and any other CNS pathology thought to affect hearing pathways ( as deemed by the investigator)

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To estimate the prevalence of hearing deficits in patients at and following ICU discharge through pure tone audiometry (PTA) in decibels (dB) to assess the hearing level, the degree and type of deafness. Timepoint: To estimate the prevalence of hearing deficits in patients at the of ICU discharge and one month following ICU discharge for those with hearing deficits through pure tone audiometry (PTA) in decibels (dB) to assess the hearing level, the degree and type of deafness.
