Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who are coming are for various surgeries who require hemodynamic monitoring through radial artery cannulation are enrolled in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient refusal. 2. Signs of infection or wound near the puncture site. 3. Recent arterial cannulation at the same site in this hospital. 4. Hemodynamically unstable patients. 5. History or evidence of peripheral vascular disease. 6. Coagulopathies.

MeasureTime frame
1.INCREASE IN DIAMETER OF RADIAL ARTERY in mm at the puncture site and the anatomical snuff box after 1 min of infiltration of drug and after 20min at the anatomical snuff box . 2.SUCCESSFUL CANNULATION: Attempt to arterial cannulation by any of the two methods and achieving an end point of free aspiration of blood from the cannula with a syringe through a three way stop cock attached to the cannula. Timepoint: 1.DIAMETER OF RADIAL ARTERY in mm at the puncture site and the anatomical snuff box after 1 min of infiltration of drug and after 20min at the anatomical snuff box. 2.SUCCESSFUL CANNULATION: Attempt to arterial cannulation by any of the two methods and achieving an end point of free aspiration of blood from the cannula with a syringe through a three way stop cock attached to the cannula.

1. NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS- (ONE ATTEMPT )- From point of skin puncture leadinf to successful cannulation or removal of cannula from the tissue after an unsuccessful attempt . 2. TIME OF INSERTION- Starting from skin puncture to free aspiration of blood from the cannula with a syringe through a three way stop cock attached to the cannula. 3. EFFECT ON ARTERY DIAMETER DISTALLY AFTER CANNULATION- Assessment of radial artery diameter distally over anatomical snuff box after 20 mins of cannulation. Timepoint: 20minutes
