Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: non-diabetic, undergoing elective surgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Diabetics, patients on preoperative steroid therapy, renal failure, hepatic failure, gastroesophageal reflux disease, history of previous stomach surgery

gastric fluid volume assessed by ultrasoundTimepoint: Ulatrsound images shall be obtained at three time points. T0 (before liquid intake), T1(5 minutes after liquid intake), T2(120 minutes after liquid intake)

1. Baseline blood sugar 2. insulin levels 3. patient discomfort 4. Postoperative nausea and vomiting 5.
