Intervention1: dexmedetomidine: IV dexmedetomidine 0.25 µg/kg diluted in normal saline (0.9%) to make a volume of 10 ml given over 10 minutes. Control Intervention1: placebo: IV normal saline (0.9%) 1

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA-1, 2, age 18 - 65 years, Electroconvulsive therapy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: ASA- Class 3 or higher, uncontrolled hypertension, patients with a poor cardiopulmonary reserve and with body mass index (BMI) >30 kg/m2, renal failure, decompensated cirrhosis, being pregnant, or refusal to provide written informed consent

Primary

MeasureTime frame
patient’s self-reported myalgia scores post ECT visual analog scale. Timepoint: 30 min, 1 hour,2 hour,6 hour ,12 hour

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
o examine presence of any bradycardia and hypotension. Timepoint: 0,1,5,10,30,60 minutes
