To see the upward spread of drug following an injection of local anesthetic(medicine used to reduce pain) in the lower back of small children using an ultrasound machine. The effect of different volumes of local anesthetics(medicine used to reduce pain) on the upward spread of drug will be seen

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: children upto the age of one year undergoing any surgeries below the umbilicus

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Any contraindication to caudal analgesia like 1) Local infection/inflammation at site 2) Congenital malformations of spinal cord 3) Coagulation disorders 4) Allergy to local anaesthetics 5) Neurological disorders 6) Increased intracranial tension 7) Surgeries beyond one hour duration

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The extent of spread using various volumes of 0.25 % levobupivacaine following single shot caudal epidural will be measured. Timepoint: pre caudal anesthesia 5 minutes, ten minutes,15 minutes post caudal anesthesia 5 minutes, ten minutes,15 minutes

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Assess the time taken for recovery from caudal anaesthesia and to compare the haemodynamic changes that occur when different volumes of 0.25 % levobupivacaine is injectedTimepoint: post caudal anesthesia vitals 5 minutes,10 minnutes ,15 minutes vitals
