Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients meeting diagnostic criteria of Alcohol dependence syndrome according to ICD 10,Patients of ages between 18-60,Patients willing to give written informed consent for participating in the study and Patients who can read, write and speak Kannada or English

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with major comorbid psychiatric disorders and Patients having other substance use disorders ( except tobacco and alcohol)

To assess following as a risk factor in known cases of Alcohol dependence syndrome and compare it with controls having no major psychiatric illness: 1. Family history (indicating genetic risk) 2. Exposure to Childhood trauma 3. Diagnosis of childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Oppositional defiant disorder or conduct disorder 4. Personality traits 5. Left handedness 6. Sensation seeking trait 7. Lack of social supporTimepoint: At baseline
