Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Participants between 18-60 years of age will be recruited from those who will be referred for a course of ECT. 2.Patients having a score of 21 or greater on the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD, 24 items), 3,Patients having suicidal ideation. 4.Only those patients who will give consent for the procedure. 5.Patients who will be accompanied by reliable informant.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients having contraindications to general anaesthesia. 2.Having history of recent intracranial hemorrhage, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction or pheochromocytoma 3.Patients having any co-morbid psychiatric disorder. 4.Patients with history or presence of any other medical illness. 5.Pregnant/lactating females. 6.Substance use disorder. 7.Illiterate patients.
