Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 2. ASA â??I, II 3. Fasting glucose 4. Patients undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia 5. Surgery duration > 1hr and

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. BMI > 35 kg/m2 2. Severe cardiac, pulmonary, renal, hepatic dysfunction or any metabolic disorders 3. Pregnant patient 4. Allergy to dexmedetomidine 5. Patient receiving medications which affect sympathetic response or hormonal secretions 6. Patient refusal to participate 7. Emergency surgery 8. Complicated surgeries of more than 2.5h

To note an side effects like bradycardia(HR 50/min), hypotension (MAP 20% of baseline BP) /hypertension ( MAP 20% of baseline BP) , hypoglycaemia ( RBS 70mg/dl) /hyperglycemia( RBS 200mg/dl) requiring intervension Timepoint: To monitor blood glucose level 3rd hr, 6th hr post operatively
