Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Age between 18-75 years 2.American Society of Anesthesiologist physical status class I and II 3.Patients posted for elective open gynecological surgery under neuraxial anesthesia
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Unwilling to participate 2.BMI 30 Kg/m2 3.Known case of diabetes mellitus 4.History of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and gastrointestinal surgery 5.On chronic and acute corticosteroid therapy 6.Difficult airway (Mallampatti grade 3 and 4) 7.Mental Deficiency 8.Inability to read Hindi/English language 9.Alcohol and substance abuse

| Measure | Time frame |

| 1.Degree of hunger, thirst, anxiety, fatigue and nausea will be assessed by using VAS score scale. 2. The postoperative capillary blood glucose will be measured in the three groups at two hours after surgery and on postoperative day 1 . Post-operative hyperglycemia will be defined as FBS 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/l). 3.Overall postoperative satisfaction will be recorded by using Quality of Recovery 40 questionnaire at 24 hours after surgery. | 1.Measurement of residual gastric volume. 2.Intraoperative mean arterial pressure (MAP) will be recorded every 10 mins. 3.Incidence of postoperative complications such as postoperative nausea and vomiting, respiratory distress surgical site infection and need for intensive care admission 4.Time of return of bowel function and length of hospital stay will also be recorded.
