Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients more than 18 years of age 2. Based on history, clinical examination, and radiological findings ( either CT Scan or MRI), diagnosed as acute stroke 3. Presenting within 48 hours of stroke onset 4. Who have not received any anti-cerebral edema measures (like diuretics, steroids, mannitol) before presenting to the hospital 5. Patientâ??s fulfilling all of the above criteria will be screened on the basis of routine electrolyte samples sent; and those with hyponatremia ( serum Na+ for its cause.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with recurrent stroke or residual paralysis 2. Patients with a h/o head trauma 3. Patients with any co-existing infection, e.g.- bacterial pneumonia, pulmonary TB, or evidence of CNS infection â?? meningitis, encephalitis 4. Patients with renal failure or chronic kidney disease (CKD) 5. Patients with liver failure or chronic liver disease 6. Patients with congestive cardiac failure (CCF) 7. Patients with any malignancy et- bronchogenic cancer, leukemia, lymphoma or brain tumours 8. Patients with a h/o any surgery within the last 3 months 9 Patients with a h/o gastroenteritis and diarrhea 10. Patients taking any drugs that cause hyponatremia eg- Diuretics, Carbamazepine, Fluoxetine 1. Patients with recurrent stroke or residual paralysis 2. Patients with a h/o head trauma 3.
