Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with ASA physical status 1 and 2 undergoing elective neurosurgeries lasting for more than 3 hours.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with history of psychiatric illness and patients in altered sensorium. 2.Patients with history of alcohol or drug abuse. 3.Patients with Body mass index more than 30. 4.Patients requiring intravenous anaesthetic infusion (for example- propofol, dexmedetomidine) for reducing the intracranial pressure or as a part of SSEP/MEP monitoring protocol. 5.Pregnant patients.

MeasureTime frame
To assess the recovery profile in terms of verbal response time, emergence time and extubation time in desflurane based anaesthesia in patients undergoing neurosurgery guided by Patient state index and End tidal anaesthetic concentration monitoring.Timepoint: At discontinuation of anaesthetic agent, at eye opening, at response to verbal commands, at removal of endotracheal tube.

1. To study the intraoperative hemodynamic variables between the two groups. 2. To assess the total volume of desflurane used.Timepoint: Baseline, post induction, post intubation, post positioning for surgery, 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins, 60 mins, 75 mins, 90 mins, 105 mins, 120 mins, 135 mins, 150 mins, 165 mins, 180 mins, post repositioning for extubation, 5 mins post reposition, 10 mins post reposition, 5 mins post extubation.
