Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Anaesthesia residents who had completed atleast 6 months training in anaesthesiology and who are novice to the performance of ultrasound guided TAP block. 2) All ASA 1 to 3 patients, aged 18 to 70 years, posted for elective abdominal surgeries and requiring Transverse Abdominis Plane block for postoperative analgesia.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Residents who had already undergone training in phantom based ultrasound guided needling training. 2. Pregnant patients. 3. Patients with coagulation abnormalities or bleeding disorders. 4. Patients with local abdominal wound infections. 5. Allergy to local anesthetics. 6. Patients not willing for the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the total duration of time taken of performance Ultrasound guided Transverse Abdominis Plane block by the residents before and after undergoing training in phantom - based modelTimepoint: To compare the total duration of time taken(at day zero and day of performance of the block) of performance Ultrasound guided Transverse Abdominis Plane block by the residents before and after undergoing training in phantom - based model

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1) To compare the needle visibility as measured by the needle visibility score. 2) To compare the number of needle insertion and needle redirections while performing the procedure. 3) To compare the overall confidence score of residents while performing the procedure as measured by Likerts scale before and after training period. 4) To compare the overall block performance score as measured by the Likerts scale before and after undergoing phantom based trainingTimepoint: 1) To compare the needle visibility as measured by the needle visibility score. 2) To compare the number of needle insertion and needle redirections while performing the procedure 3) To compare the overall confidence score of residents while performing the procedure as measured by Likerts scale before and after training period at day zero and day of performance of the block
