Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All ventilated children aged from 1 month to 18 years admit in PICU who :- 1. have conserved gastrointestinal function 2. require >72 hours of ventilation 3. were initiated enteral nutrition within the first 48 hours of PICU admission 4. gave consent for participation in the study.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Primary gastrointestinal pathology or surgery; 2. Those with percutaneous gastrostomy tubes, intestinal fistula, obstruction, necrosis, peritonitis . 3. EN not started within 48 hours, or EN started prior to PICU admission; 4. Death or discharge before 72 hours of observation; 5. Contraindication to enteral diet; 6. Intolerance to the prescribed nutrients or infusion regimen.
