Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients between 18 and 85 years, admitted with first episode of cerebrovascular accident i.e. an abrupt onset of neurological deficit that is attributable to focal vascular cause, with neurological signs lasting for >24 hours 2. Patients with clinical and/or neuroimaging studies (CT/MRI brain) suggestive of cerebrovascular accident. FOR CASES1.Known cases of diabetes mellitus on treatment 2.Diabetes mellitus patients, diagnosed according to American Diabetes Association Criteria 2020.a) Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) >126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L). Fasting is defined as no caloric intake for at least 8 h Or b) 2-h plasma glucose >=200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) after a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test Or c) In a patient with classic symptoms of hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic crisis, a random plasma glucose >=200 mg/dL 11.1 mmol/L) Or d) HbA1C >=6.5% (48 mmol/mol) FOR CONTROLS 1.No prior history of diabetes mellitus 2.No history of treatment with OHA or insulin for diabetes mellitus 3.HbA1c
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria 1.Prior history of cerebrovascular accident 2.Movement disorder affecting limb movements including dystonia, athetosis, chorea and myoclonus. 3.Psychiatric illness interfering with activities of daily living or cognitive functions. 4.GCS 5.Limb deformities 6.Impaired gait prior to stroke (musculoskeletal abnormalities or peripheral neuropathy)
