Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age above 60 years Undergoing craniotomy under general anaesthesia Requiring intraoperative osmotherapy Asa 1 and 2

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Consent refusal Contraindications to insert transoesophageal echocardiography probe : osephageal surgery, strictures Patients with coronary artery disease/valvular heart disease Patients with end organ dysfunction Patients with hypo/hypernatremia and treated with mannitol or hypertonic saline in the previous 24hrs

Assessment of the left ventricular output by measuring left ventricle outflow tract velocity time integral using transoesophageal echocardiography after adminstration of mannitol and hypertonic salineTimepoint: Assessment of the left ventricular output by measuring left ventricle outflow tract velocity time integral using transoesophageal echocardiography after adminstration of mannitol and hypertonic saline at 5,15,30,45,60,90 mins post adminstration

To compare brain relaxation score between two groups by surgeon before and after dural opening To compare heart rate and blood pressure change after study drug adminstration To study and compare serum electrolytes,serum osmolarity between two groups To note total duration of hospital stay To compare neurological outcome in both groups by mrs at discharge and 3 months. Timepoint: 1. BRS- before and after dural opening 2.Heart rate and blood pressure- Intraoperatively 5, 15,30,45,60, 90 mins post study drug adminstration 3. mRs -at discharge and 3 months after discharge
