Interventions

Intervention1: Transversus Abdominis Plane Block: ultrasound guided TAP block will be performed with patients placed in supine position. Under all aseptic precautions TAP block will be given with the
their back sterilized by chlorhexidine. Under all aseptic precautions the L3/L4 or L4/L5 intervertebral space will be identified as per surface anatomical landmarks. 3 mL of 2% lidocaine will be infil

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 60 Patients of ASA physical status I/II, in the age group of 18-60 years of either sex, scheduled for elective open inguinal hernia repair

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Consent not given ASA Grade 3 and above Hypersensitivity to study drugs Bleeding disorders Co-morbid conditions Contraindications to regional anaesthesia BMI >=30 kg/m2, Irreducible / Strangulated /recurrent Inguinal hernia Preoperative chronic use of other analgesia (opioids or nonsteroidal antiâ??inflammatory drugs)

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound guided TAP block as an anaesthetic technique for inguinal hernia repair in adults, compared to Spinal Anesthesia.Outcome will be assessed by VAS scoreTimepoint: immediately after tracheal extubation, 15 min, 30 min and then hourly until the first rescue analgesic

MeasureTime frame
To compare hemodynamic responses intra-operatively between ultrasound guided TAP block and Spinal Anesthesia. To compare post-operative pain levels, side effects and recovery following TAP block and Spinal Anesthesia. Timepoint: Hemodyamics:10 min interval till the end of surgery VAS score:3, 6, 12 and 24 and 48 hours
