Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure defined as hypoxemia PaO2 <60 or with 20% drop in saturation from baseline with indication for intubation
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Those not consenting for the study 2.Pregnancy 3.Contraindication to nasopharyngeal cannula like nasopharyngeal obstruction or blockage, nasal bone fractures, basilar skull fracture 4.Difficult airway due to reduced neck movement, mouth opening, Mallampatti score of class >2.
