Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I or II. 2. Age group 18-80 years of either sex. 3. Patients scheduled to undergo elective surgery under general anaesthesia.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with history of prior gastric or lower esophageal surgery. 2. Patients with known abnormalities of the upper gastrointestinal tract (such as hiatal hernias and gastric tumors). 3. Pregnancy. 4. Patients unable to turn and lie in lateral position. 5. Patients with BMI more than 35kg/m2. 6. Patients with known acid peptic disease, gastric or duodenal diseases. 7. Failure of passing NG tube or obtain gastric aspirate. 8. Patients who are allergic to proton pump inhibitors. 9. Patients who are not able to understand the study procedure and provide informed written consent.

| 1. To compare the efficacy of lansoprazole and dexlansoprazole in increasing the fasting gastic pH by the use of a digital pH meter in patients undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia. 2. To find correlation between the measured gastric residual volume and gastric pH with any underlying co-morbidities. 3. To evaluate and assess any possible side effects, if any, of the above mentioned proton pump inhibitors.Timepoint: After 8 hours of fasting | — |
