Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: preoperative fasted patients, ASAPS class 1-3, BMI <30.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: patient refusal, pregnant patients, BMI >30, upper GI anomaly, history of any abdominal surgery, patient with any difficult airway or difficult spinal anaesthesia.

MeasureTime frame
To assess the gastric content and volume (qualitatively and quantitatively) using ultrasound in diabetics and non-diabetics posted for elective surgery. The main objective is to compare the frequency of a full stomach in the diabetic population compared to non-diabetic population. Timepoint: To compare the incidence with post operative nausea and vomitting as soon as the surgery will end.

MeasureTime frame
feasibility of ultrasonography as noninvasive tool in evaluating gastric contents and volume, to compare impact of duration of fasting in both diabetics and non diabetics, to determine the standard fasting guidelines if they can protect against pulmonary aspiration.Timepoint: in 24 weeks
