Interventions

Intervention1: topical mixture of prilocaine and lidocaine: Lidocaine reduces the excitability of C and Aδ fibres of peripheral nerves.The patient is allowed to apply eutectic mixture 3-4 times/ day

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All herpes zoster cases with neuralgic pain persisting for more than one month. 2. Patients willing to participate in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. All herpes zoster patients with neuralgic pain of less than 1 month duration. 2. Any known allergy to lignocaine or pregabalin 3. Patients not willing for the study 4. Pregnant and lactating female. 5. Patients who have taken any medications for PHN in the past 2 days.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Clinical improvement in symptoms - assessed based on changes in visual analogue scale, DLQI from baseline to 2nd week, 4th week and 6th week.Timepoint: end of 2nd week, 4th week and 6th week.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate safety in terms of occurrence of any adverse effects.Timepoint: end of 2nd week, 4th week and 6th week
