Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Consenting neurosurgical adult patients with age 18-60 years 2.ASA (American Society of Anaesthesiologists) status I and II patients. 3.Age 18 ?60 years. 4.GCS of 15

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patient refusal. 2.Age less than 18 years and more than 60 years. 3.GCS 4.Longstanding diabetes mellitus, hypertension, vascular diseases, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). 5.Known case of cardiac illness (coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure). 6.Patients with previous history of stroke, Transient ischemic attacks, carotid disease, severely increased ICP. 7.Obesity. 8.ASA (American Society of Anaesthesiologists) status III ,IV,V patients. 9.Patients with sub-arachnoid hemmorhage, vasospasm. 10.Pregnant & nursing mothers.

MeasureTime frame
To assess the effect of change in position from supine to lateral and supine to prone on cerebral oxygenation using NIRS during various positions (supine, prone, lateral) used during elective neurosurgery.Timepoint: Baseline NIRS reading will be taken in supine position from NIRS electrodes placed at the frontal area. NIRS reading will be taken at 5 minutes after induction of anesthesia. One minute before positioning the patient NIRS value will again be noted. Post final positioning of the patient, NIRS values will be recorded every minute till first 10 minutes, and then every 5 minutes till 30 minutes.

1. To assess the significance and causes of changes in cerebral oxygenation during patient positioning in neurosurgery. 2. To assess changes in NIRS from awake state to anesthesia and positioning.Timepoint: Baseline NIRS reading will be taken in supine position from NIRS electrodes placed at the frontal area. NIRS reading will be taken at 5 minutes after induction of anesthesia. One minute before positioning the patient NIRS value will again be noted. Post final positioning of the patient, NIRS values will be recorded every minute till first 10 minutes, and then every 5 minutes till 30 minutes.
