Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with differentiated thyroid cancer-all variants, Medullary thyroid carcinoma (Familial/Sporadic)who would undergo total or completion thyroidectomy with or without central compartment clearance and lateral neck dissection at TMH. 2. Age above 18 years. 3. Consenting patients willing to follow up at TMH.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with Renal or Liver disease. 2. Patients with MTC as part of MEN 2a & 2b. 3. Patients suffering from Malabsorption, Musculoskeletal diseases & Hyperparathyroidism. 4. Patients on medications known to affect calcium metabolism, such as bisphosphonates, calcitonin, gallium nitrate, plicaycin, glucocorticoids.

MeasureTime frame
To assess the influence of (pre-operative) vitamin D levels on the development of post-operative hypocalcaemia. Timepoint: To assess the influence of (pre-operative) vitamin D levels on the development of post-operative hypocalcaemia(Signs and symptoms of hypocalcemia and hypoparathyroidism will be noted in the post- operative period and on follow-up).

1. Influence and interaction of Sr. Magnesium and Phosphate on post-operative hypocalcaemia and hypoparathyroidism incidence. 2.To assess Quality of life using EORTC-THY-34 Questionnaire. Timepoint: 1.Total Serum calcium, albumin, 25-OHD, Serum magnesium, Sr. Phosphate would be measured preoperatively on the day before surgery,Post-operatively on POD-1,POD-5 or before discharge whichever earlier;Repeat measurements will be done at 1-2 month, 5-7 months and after 12 months. 2.Quality of life will be assessed using EORTC-THY-34 Questionnaire at the time of follw-up.
