Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Systemically healthy individuals with generalized chronic periodontitis including both male and female between 30-60 years. 2) Patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (HbA1C above 7) at least one year prior to the commencement of the study. 3) Patients must have a minimal complement of 20 teeth, of which at least 30% of teeth must exhibit probing depth >= 4mm. 4) Patients who have not received anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics for the past 3 months. 5) Patients who have not received any kind of periodontal treatment for the past 6 months. 6) Patients who will maintain satisfactory oral hygiene. 7) Patients who are ready for subsequent follow up visits after periodontal treatment. 8) The control group will be composed of individuals with no evidence of interproximal attachment loss, probing depth

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History of any systemic disease other than type 2 diabetes mellitus. 2. Pregnant or lactating females. 3. History of smoking or any other form of tobacco use. 4. History of vitamin/mineral/antioxidant supplements intake during the last 3 months. 5. Patients who have undergone any periodontal treatment during the 6 months prior to the study.
