Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Hypertensive patients receiving B-Blockers/ACE inhibitors 2.Diabetes mellitus, 3.Any known significant renal/ cardiac disease, 4.Gastro esophageal disease, 5.BMI>=30 Kg/m2 6.Moderate to severe respiratory disease 7.Pregnancy. 8.Patients with documented delayed gastric emptying or slow gastrointestinal motility.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1.To compare the incidence of hypotension following induction of an anaesthesia between the patients receiving oral carbohydrate drinks and conventional preoperative fasting. 2. To compare the Pleth variability index (PVI) and Perfusion index (PI) at baseline and following induction in between the above mentioned two groups. Timepoint: 1. every one minute for 15 minutes from induction 2. 15min,30min,45min and 1 hour after surgery

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Comparison of intraoperative vitals throughout the surgery between the two groups 2.Total amount of intraoperative fluid and blood product administered between the two groups 3.Severity of postoperative pain at 1 hour after surgery between the two groups. Timepoint: HR,SBP,DBP,SPO2,NRS and modified aldrete score at 15min, 30min,45min and 1 hour in PACU.
