Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA grade I and II patients undergoing major abdominal surgery 2. Age 18 to 80 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with previous history of Schizophrenia, Dementia or Parkinsonism 2. Patients taking any kind of psychiatric treatment. 3. Patients in sepsis (either fever, raised TLC, known source of infection). 4. Patients already on ventilator. 5. Patients who are not extubated within 2 hours after surgery. 6. Known contraindications to either of the drugs. 7. Pregnant women.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
to compare MMSE score between 3 groupsTimepoint: 6 hours post-extubation

1. Minimum alveolar concentration(MAC) required to achieve targeted Bispectral Index(50-60). 2. Time to extubate( from time of initiation of skin closure to tracheal extubation). 3. Post-operative pain scores (every 2 hourly for 6 hours after extubation). 4. The effect on hemodynamic parameters of dexmedetomidine and subanaesthetic ketamine infusion Timepoint: intra operatively every hourly post operatively hourly till 6 hours after extubation
