Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult patients admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) 2. mechanically ventilated on controlled mode of ventilation 3. Deeply sedated (Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale -4 or -5) without any spontaneous breathing efforts or paralysed with muscle relaxants.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient with spontaneous breathing activity having respiratory efforts.
