Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged more than 18 years. Patient requiring central venous line cannulation in intensive and critical Care unit and in elective and emergency surgeries.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with Coagulopathies with INR more than 1.5 and platelets less than 50,000 Local infection.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the first pass success rate of real time ultrasound guided long and short axis approach in cannulation of internal jugular vein.Timepoint: 600 seconds

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare variables like, 1.Number of needle attempts and redirection. 2.Time taken for guidewire insertion. 3. Time taken for catheter placement. 4.Complications during procedure.Timepoint: 1. Number of times needle withdrawn and redirected till successful cannulation approximately 180 seconds 2.Time taken for guidewire insertion is time from the first needle entry to the ultrasound confirmation of presence of guidewire within internal jugular vein approximately 120 seconds 3. Time taken for catheter placement is time taken from first needle entry to the successful aspiration of venous blood from the lumen of catheter approximately 180 seconds
