Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: patients aged >= 18 years of ASA physical status 1â??2 and gestational age >= 37 weeks, who are scheduled to undergo elective caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: contraindication to spinal anaesthesia (coagulation disorder, allergy to local anesthetics, sepsis, increased intracranial pressure), medical conditions (pre-existing or new-onset cardiac disease, pre-eclampsia or eclampsia, neurological disorder) and fetal conditions (fetal distress, intrauterine growth restriction, severe congenital abnormalities, stillbirth and multiple pregnancies

MeasureTime frame
correlation of preoperative IJV CSA / diameter / collapsibility index (CI) with episodes of intraoperative hypotension occurring after injection of spinal anesthestic until delivery of baby.Timepoint: Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) will be recorded every 3 min until delivery and every 5 min thereafter till the baby is delivered. Routine care will follow afterwards.

Correlation of episodes of hypotension with body mass index (BMI), period of fasting (h), abdominal girth at the level of umbilicus (cm), boluses of ephedrine used, episodes of nausea, vomiting, other hemodynamic parameters like heart rate (HR) and SpO2 Timepoint: All measurements like BMI, abdominal girth and period of fasting would be made just before spinal anesthesia. All vitals monitoring, bolus of ephedrine used and episodes of nausea and vomiting would be noted throughout the procedure, until delivery of baby. Routine care would follow afterwards.
